Refinishing a Picnic Table

A couple of weekends ago I was on my way to take Margot to the park and I drove by Goodwill. Dilemma #1. Margot really wanted to swing, but I really wanted to check out the furniture at Goodwill. So we compromised (BTW it’s really easy to compromise with a 1.5 year old who can’t drive or talk) and went to Goodwill. We headed right over to the furniture section and I could not believe my eyes when I saw a child’s wood picnic table for only $5!!! I looked around the store thinking about how I was going to get that table and my daughter all the way back to the front of the store. So I did what any good mom would do, I carried Margot in one arm and the picnic table in the other. I could not risk someone else snatching that table!

I was able to get both Margot and the picnic table to my car. Dilemma #2. I had no idea how I was going to fit this into my car. So I did what any wife would do, I called my husband. This didn’t really fix anything because his words were not able to magically get the table into the car, but he was able to give me the confidence I needed! I uninstalled Margot’s carseat and moved it to the other side of the car so that I could put the extra long seat down. It worked!! I was able to get Margot and the picnic table safely home!!!

As soon as we got home and put the table in Margot’s playroom she forgot all about the park.

The picnic table was cute in it’s natural state, but we wanted something to match the playroom. We decided to repaint it.

Step 1: We sanded the whole table.

Step 2: Let the painting begin! We used some leftover white spray paint from the kitchen we built and painted the base.

Step 3: We bought a sample size of gray paint and brushed on the gray paint to the top of the table and seats.

Easy peasy. After it dried we moved it back into the playroom. Margot loves playing with her friends at her new table!
